Dream the possible
The Living in a sustainable city exhibition, a three-part reflexion on sustainable urban development, is in its last phase: "Dream the possible."
"Dream the possible" focuses on citizens and presents the proposed ideas and commitments made by visitors during the first two parts of the exhibition in 2009. Once again, this third phase asks us to imagine our ideal green neighbourhood and think of innovative ways to solve some of the problems in Montréal, whether it be by organic waste collection, small seasonal markets in every neighbourhood, or building more green roofs in downtown Montréal. Let's start dreaming of ways to live, get around, and consume better in our neighbourhoods!
"Dream the possible" is a way to give citizens a voice!
A Three-Part Series
The Living in a Sustainable City exhibition is a three-part series. The first was "Examine the present situation," and the second was "Giving ourselves tools."
"Examine the present situation" – June 4 - June 21, 2009
Visitors learned about the current situation in Montreal's central neighbourhoods and participated in group activities where they were invited to contribute to the exhibition by leaving comments or drawings that represented their idea of a sustainable city. Statistics and other facts also showed the scale of the challenges we are facing.
"Giving ourselves tools" – November 5 - December 21, 2009
Inspiring examples from around the world were presented in the form of postcards to show how we can make cities more sustainable. Each card displayed examples of creative solutions, inspiring achievements, messages of hope, and success stories. Participants were also invited to measure their own ecological footprint.
Did you know?
At the museum, sustainable development and eco-design go hand in hand. This is the underlying theme for all parts of the exhibition and is demonstrated by reusing furniture, printing on partially or entirely recycled paper, and using natural building materials, such as wood. Some of the museums priorities for the exhibition were buying or borrowing locally, reducing transportation, and using a small-scale format. The exhibition is almost 100% recycled and recyclable!
The Living in a Sustainable City is the fruit of a collaboration between the Montréal Urban Ecology Centre and the Écomusée du fier monde.
