The Toronto Atmospheric Fund (TAF) invests in local initiatives that combat global climate change and improve air quality. Each year, TAF has $1.2 million available for grants and up to $8 million for loans to finance projects in four strategic program areas: low carbon lighting, energy efficiency in high-rise homes, local solar energy generation and alternative fuel vehicle solutions . All the money comes from an endowment fund, which means that TAF can fund projects at no expense to the tax payer. Funding is open to not-for-profit groups and public organizations like universities, hospitals and City departments. The intention is to foster partnerships and use TAF funds to attract further investment in climate innovation. With TAF, Toronto is taking action today to improve the quality of life tomorrow.
