History of the Montréal Urban Ecology Centre

Deeply rooted in the Montréal community, the Montréal Urban Ecology Centre is located in the heart of the Milton-Parc neighbourhood, home to the largest stock of cooperative housing in Canada. The Centre turned their office into one of the neighbourhood’s first ecological laboratories when they and some 60 volunteers introduced better ecological practices into their building. Today, the neighbourhood has become what we call the "Milton-Parc Sustainable Development Laboratory."
The Montréal Urban Ecology Centre has a long history filled with a series of urban activist campaigns led by residents of the Milton-Parc neighbourhood who have rallied on several occasions for issues such as housing, green spaces, and democracy. This has given residents a strong feeling of solidarity and the will to take their neighbourhood's future in their hands. It has also turned Milton-Parc into a breeding ground for the experimentation of innovative ecological solutions.
The Montréal Urban Ecology Centre is an independent, non-profit organization, and was established in 1996.
