"We see the potential in shared and public spaces (streets, alleyways, parks, courtyards, gardens, walls, balconies, roofs, etc.) to improve welfare, health, safety, and a sense of community." Owen Rose, MUEC President (Word From the President)

Luc Rabouin's presentation at the Ecocity World Summit in 2009 in Istanbul

The 8th international Ecocity Conference was in Istanbul on December 13-15, 2009 and the theme was Urban Ecological Foundations for Climate Solutions.

Luc Rabouin, the executive director of the MUEC, participated in the panel Heritage, Equity, and Design with Prof. Sudarshan Tiwari, an architect and city historian from Nepal, and Marcel Diallo, an artist and community developer from Black Dot Artists in the United States.

The panel aimed to present examples of urban design that benefit citizens and the environment and thus create a balance between residents, ecosystems, and development. The panal also proposed to take another look at the ecological footprint of our cities and see what lessons we could learn for the future.

The MUEC's presentation focused primarily on Milton-Parc, a leading Montréal neighbourhood in participatory and sustainable urban development.
