Imagine Milton-Parc

The Imagine Milton-Parc Sustainable Development Laboratory is an example of how to plan and implement participatory sustainable development at the neighbourhood level. It also demonstrates how combining popular and specialized knowledge can mobilize hundreds of neighbourhood citizens and experts from different fields to work together on the following themes:

1) sustainable transportation
2) energy consumption
3) water conservation
4) waste management

Citizens had the opportunity to participate in the entire process and propose actions they wished to see in the final plan.

They participated in the following ways:

- Attended a roundtable discussion with members of housing cooperatives, condominium owners, other residents, small business owners, and local merchants.

- Carried out the Energy Use and Attitudinal Survey with more than 400 households in the neighborhood.

-  Attended public meetings of over 100 people where preliminary research results were presented on each of the four themes.

- Submitted project proposals to the "call for projects" and attended a community assembly to choose which project proposals were the most important.
