Since 2005, the MUEC has been working on developing an ambitious popular education initiative through our School of Urban Citizenship.The goal is to encourage more citizens to become involved in the development of their neighbourhoods and cities.

More specific goals:

• Develop citizens’ and community stakeholders’ knowledge of current public participation actions.

• Increase the opportunity for citizens and community stakeholders to participate and hold positions within municipal and community bodies. 

• Encourage community stakeholders and citizens to share their expertise on different local examples of citizen participation in sustainable neighbourhood development.

• Facilitate a partnership between universities and community organizations concerning citizen participation in the sustainable development of neighbourhoods and Montréal.

• Raise awareness among different financial and institutional partners of the importance of citizen participation in Montréal's sustainable development.
